WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

A decade ago, during the gin revolution that took the nation by storm, New Harbour's founders embarked on a journey of
experimentation with native botanicals. In 2015, we found our home in Woodstock, where we launched Rooibos Gin, Spekboom Gin, and Copper Vodka to the South African market.

At the heart of our journey is Nic Janeke, the scientific mind and master distiller behind our creations. Demand for Nic's expertise in crafting fine spirits grew steadily, leading us to develop new formulas, expand product ranges, and refine liquids for various brands.

TRADITIONAL DISTILLING IN THE HEART OF CAPE TOWN

TRADITIONAL DISTILLING IN THE HEART OF CAPE TOWN

The vibrant neighbourhood of Woodstock in the Mother City has undergone its own evolution over the years. Once a quaint coastal town, it attracted sun-seekers eager for relaxation and breathtaking views of Table Mountain. But it wasn't always known as Woodstock; it was the fishermen's suburb of Papendorp.

In the late 1800s, residents gathered at the Woodstock Hotel in Papendorp to select a new name for their emerging municipality. Over drinks at the hotel, a group of fishermen proposed "Woodstock" as a nod to their beloved watering hole. Their idea prevailed, and the rest is history. Woodstock it was, honouring the area's bar of choice!

Since that day, Woodstock has retained its charm. It's renowned for its artistic and hip ambience, boasting vibrant cafes, lively attractions, and, naturally, numerous bars.

The area created the perfect setting for New Harbour Distillery – an ideal home for our fusion of science and craft. In choosing our name, we wished to celebrate our roots in Woodstock, the historic industrial heart of Cape Town.
